The children of 6B took part in a fantastic architecture workshop this afternoon when they joined demonstrator Martin in the upstairs hall for a construction challenge!

‘Architecture Workshops’ are hands-on fun educational activities for all Key Stages and abilities. They are designed to enhance the national curriculum and to communicate the art and experience of architecture, art, and design.

Each child was challenged to build a tetrahedron using canes and elastic bands independently before working as a group to construct one on a larger scale. Throughout the activity the children had to continually assess their work and make changes to improve it accordingly.

Martin then challenged the children to think of shelters to construct which would be suitable for a variety of habitats. The challenge was designed to apply skills developed in design technology, maths and science and the workshop worked to stimulate our pupil’s imagination, interpretative and visual problem solving skills helping to develop higher order thinking skills.

There were smiles all round as the children built huge structures by working as a team!
