The morning started with a treat for the children as they welcomed Toby from the library service to assembly. Toby told the children all about this years ‘Summer Reading Challenge’.

The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays with more and more Earls Hall children taking part each year. You can sign up at your local library, then read six library books of your choice to complete the Challenge. There are exclusive rewards to collect along the way, and it’s free  to take part. Meanwhile the children from across Year Two enjoyed a fantastic day out at Wat Tyler. Throughout the day the children were challenged to find out all about plants. They had to identify plants by searching for clues in the meadow. Later on they were taught how plants are superheroes and use leaves to turn air into sugar and then pretended to be leaves themselves catching balls of light!

At the centre the children found out about seed dispersal by making sycamore seeds and testing them by dropping them out of a window!
