Soup & Sawing!

It was a day full of design and technology fun at Earls Hall today as children in Year One and Six developed some of their life skills! The children in Year One have been learning about different types of dinosaurs this week, identifying which ones were carnivores and herbivores, and so today they took to the community room in order to make their own vegetable based ‘herbivore’ soup!

The children from Woodpeckers, Squirrels and Rabbits created their own vegetable based soup recipe, discussing different possible ingredients. They were then taught the skills of peeling and cutting using a bridge grip and created their own safety posters for this. Later in the day the children peeled and chopped carrots, potatoes and celery which they then boiled and blended in order to create a tasty meal. The children each tasted their homemade offering and talked about likes and dislikes. It was a full day of fun, with the smell of tasty soup wafting down the corridor!

Meanwhile, as the children in 6M enjoyed some silent reading and the children in Elm developed their balancing skills in the upstairs hall, the children in 6J developed their Harry Potter themed models as they began building their houses for Hagrid. The children used their designs to measure, markmand saw wood using hand-saws which will form the structure of their models.
