It was an exciting day for the children in our Foundation Stage classes today as they ventured out into the woods for their first experience of Forest Friends. Donned in suitable outdoor clothing, the children in Hedgehogs, Robins and Dormice were introduced to the wooded area at the front of the school in groups where the teachers explained how the different areas are used by the children. The children were introduced to the Forest Friends cabin where natural resources are stored as well as the base camp canopy, mud area and various sheltered areas of trees. The first session always focuses on how to stay safe when taking part in the sessions and so today some of the basic rules were introduced. It was a fun way to begin their outdoor learning experience!

Meanwhile, as the children in the Cabin investigated ordering three and four digit numbers, the children in Year Three investigated how illustrators respond to the work of authors through their art. The children mixed water colours and line drawings to create their own illustrations in the style of Quentin Blake, work linked to the introduction of ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ as their new class text.

As the children in 6M took to the playground on their bikes in their first ‘Bikeability’ session, there was more creative flair on show in Sycamore as the children began designing their own witches to incorporate into a frame design. Downstairs, children from across Year One worked in groups with the lovely Miss Holmes to create their own avatars for their Purple Mash profiles. After school Mrs Hanshaw hosted another ‘Cars Club’ where the children had fun playing with everything connected with vehicles.
