It was another busy start to the week at Earls Hall today and one which saw the children in upper KS2 all develop their map skills! The children in Year Six used their knowledge of the British Isles in order to locate Stratford upon Avon on the map and plot possible routes to travel there in preparation for their up and coming residential trip. Whilst looking at the map they identified the locations of known landmarks. Meanwhile, in Year Five, the children focused on the United States of America, and their knowledge of the various states, due to their work on the book ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar. As the story is set in Texas, they identified its location on the map and researched the state in pairs.

As children from Badgers and Oak assisted Miss Kelly in looking after the farm animals, the children in 6C took to the playground in order to develop their measuring skills. They worked in groups to measure the playground in detail before calculating the entire circumference.

Out of the front of the school,  Miss Chandler worked with the children from the Foundation Stage in Forest Friends. The children were taught a series of group games which are perfect to play outside before they had a go at creating their own for others to play. Meanwhile, back inside, the children in Year Two created their own scenes inspired by the Traction Man stories. The children read the story as a class before they created their own similar characters using toys and objects from around the classroom which they then used to tell their own short stories. Each group was challenged to include a daring rescue of one of the characters and all of the children rose to this challenge dramatically!
