It was a wonderful day in Year One today. The children started the morning investigating a range of tools and took turns to handle them in order to describe their appearance and investigate what jobs they would be useful for. Some children then chose to write about the tools using golden sentences whilst others picked photos and pictures of items and characters that interested them in order to meet the same objective. There was some wonderful examples of beautiful sentences, some containing conjunctions, by the end of the session. Later in the morning the children used their Maths session to help the Jolly Postman share his deliveries equally. The children used a variety of practical resources to help them and a great time was had by all.

The children in Foundation Stage were joined by a host of proud parents and other family members on two occasions today as they shared their progress in some ‘Letters & Sounds’ demos. The children blended and segmented with confidence. Thanks to all of the adults who came along to either of the sessions for giving us their time.

In Year Two the children in Foxes, Owls and Badgers spent the day investigating the United kingdom. Having each investigated England yesterday, today Foxes focused on Northern Ireland whilst Owls investigated Scotland and Badgers developed their understanding of Wales. The children made models of landmarks, had a go at national pastimes such as traditional dances, and created flags or national flowers. They used books and the internet to find the answers to self composed questions about their country and then, in the afternoon, each classroom was transformed into a museum where their work about their country was on display so that, when each class visited their room, they could learn about the other countries.

In the evening Mrs Joyce worked with a group of parents of children i KS2 where she taught them some of the strategies which we use to teach Maths from Year Three to Six. Thanks to everyone who came along.
