It was an exciting day for the children across Year One today as they enjoyed a visitor in class and half the year group went on a visit out of school too!

In the morning the children were visited by Mr Crouch, husband of our very own Mrs Crouch, who talked to the children all about his job in the fire service. Mr Crouch explained different ways to be safe around fire and how the service works to try and prevent fires as well as put them out when they start. He showed the children his equipment and some of the special clothes that he wears in order to protect himself when he is fighting a blaze. The children enjoyed trying on his helmet and the teachers even got to don his entire outfit. It was a fun and informative session, thank you to Mr Crouch for giving us some time out of his busy day.

In the afternoon, as the children in Year Five enjoyed looking at the phases of the moon using Oreos, the children in Squirrels and half of Woodpeckers ventured out of school in order to find out more about the Christian faith and the church as a place of worship. At the church the children were welcomed by Colin, the Priest in charge, before Curate Bernard talked to the children all about the building. He explained to the group how various features of the church, such as the alter, are used in services and at special times of the year for services. It was a fun afternoon, thank you to all of the team at St Peters for having us.

Meanwhile, it was a full day in terms of sport as a team of children from across Years Five and Six represented the school at the Southend inter-schools dodgeball tournament. The day saw us top our group without losing a game before then finishing the end of the tournament in a brilliant third place. There was more sport taking place over at Alleyn Court as two teams of children represented the school in some friendly matches. The afternoon saw us lose one game and win one in, what Mr Crooks described as, some super entertaining matches!
