It was a busy Thursday today as children from across all the classes took part in a range of activities.

Dormice children were inspired to create their own sweet shop after last weeks food fayre. They made their own shop sign and chose to make the individual sweets to sell to their friends. Mr Stanton, our chair of the governing body, was in school for the morning and took the time to speak to the children about what they were learning. Throughout the morning the children from the Foundation Stage enjoyed a French session with Madame Bass introducing them to simple words and phrases as an introduction to the language.

Both assemblies saw us welcome the Rev David Pearce from St Peters Church who told the children all about the story of the lost coin. Later in the morning children from KS1 represented the school at the Southend inter-schools tag rugby tournament. the team drew against Bournemouth Park 4-4, won against Thorpe Greenways 4-3 and lost against Chalkwell 4-3 and Leigh 6-5. Miss O Rourke came back to school boasting about how team spirited the children were!

The afternoon saw Hawks acting as scientists as they investigated shadows by working in groups throughout the school building.  The class began their lesson in the classroom and then moved to the darkened hall to carry out an investigation about how the size of a shadow changes when it moves further away from a light source (torch).  It involved teamwork, measuring skills, fair testing, predicting and making conclusions. Meanwhile 6C continued their work on the Tudors by designing family emblems in the style of the period.

At the end of the day parents of Year Four children were invited into school to hear information about the Year Five PGL trip. Mrs Sterling and Miss Ellacott talked them through some of the arrangements and activities the children could expect to take part in. On the field after school both Mr Smiths delivered a sporting club, circuit training and rounders, which were a treat to taken part in as the weather was so sunny!
