It was a busy start to the week in the Foundation Stage today and one with a theme of nature and animals! The children in Dormice took part in a fun Forest Friends session where they investigated the life of birds as part of their introduction into the RSPB ‘Big Bird Watch’ initiative. The children were able to look at a range of abandoned birds nests which are kept in the cabin, looking closely at how they were made and thinking of the size of the bird who may have used each one. They then went on a walk of the woodland area out of the front of the school in order to try and spot birds.

Meanwhile, next door in Robins, the children continued to be interested in snakes and having taken part in a whole host of snake themed activities last week were thrilled to be visited by a real life one today! Monty, a royal python, visited Robins along with his owner Martin, one of our lovely Dads. Martin explained what he has to do in order to care for Monty including details such as what he is fed and how he handles him with care.  Every child then had a go at stroking the snake and described what it felt like. The children asked some really good questions and Martin answered them using his extensive snake knowledge. They asked things like: How does the snake sleep? What does it eat? How does it move and climb? It was a fascinating afternoon of snake themed fun, thank you Martin for giving us your time.

As Miss Kelly was joined by children from Elm and Oak to look after the goats, chickens and ducks, the children in Badgers enjoyed another session on the playground being coached by the team from Southend United. Meanwhile, the children in Foxes developed their ability to divide whilst the children in Sycamore took part in a yoga session in the upstairs hall. There were lots of best wishes given to the lovely Mrs May as she celebrated her fiftieth birthday and our much loved Midday Assistant was presented with flowers from her friends. Happy birthday Mrs May!
