READING CHAMPIONS!

The start of the week brought with it a sense of celebration as the children from across the Foundation Stage and KS1 gathered for a very special ‘Reading Champions’ assembly.

This mornings assembly was the see children presented with not only their bronze and silver badges but their very prestigious gold badges! the gold badges were presented in recognition of the children reading at least one hundred times to an adult at home. Parents and family members of children being presented with gold were invited into the assembly to see the children stand at the front, proudly wearing their badges. At the end of the assembly the children all sang ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ while Mr B accompanied them with his guitar. Throughout the assembly key members of staff monitored the behaviour of the children and at the end of the presentation two children were chosen as being particularly well behaved and given the job of polishing Mr B’s office as a reward.

Later in the day the children from across Year Two continued to focus on the theme of space following the teachers mission to the moon. They turned their role play areas into rockets and began to create papier mache planets using paper and balloons. Each class was a hive of creative activity!

In the Foundation Stage the children used Numicon as part of their daily ‘Numbertime’ sessions whilst in 6C the children used the internet to research accounts of WW2. In Beech the children used French to name shops and key features of a town whilst in 6J the children used the film ‘Fantastia’ to investigate the impact of musical scores.
