There was a theme of pupil voice power at Earls Hall today as several key meetings took place. From Year Two to Six, each class has an elected representative on the school council, sports council and green team and today all three committees met.

The school council continued to discuss how to monitor the provision in the KS1 hall at lunchtime to ensure that it meets the same standards as the recently revamped ‘Woodland Diner’. They discussed how they would measure the lunchtime experience for the younger children and then, at lunchtime, some of the council spent time in the hall for themselves.

Meanwhile the sports council met with Mrs Ludlam and Mr Smith to talk about how they could find out the opinion of sport and how we could improve our provision further across the school whilst the green team members met with Miss Neal to continue to discuss ways to make the school more environmentally friendly.

In both halls the children took part in our weekly ‘Celebration assemblies’ where we presented the most recent round of ‘Earls Hall Stars’ to a child in each class for individual achievement and effort. Well done children, we are proud of you!

Also today a group of children from Years Five and Six represented the school at the Essex Dodgeball finals. In the first group the team beat Brightlingsea, Stanford le Hope, Birch and Eversley schools. They then qualified to the super 8s and beat Grove, RA Butler and Birch. Then, in the semi final, the children played St Mary’s Shenfield and lost before playing RA Butler for third place and win 2.0 Overall the team played nine games and won eight, reaching third place in the whole of Essex! Well done children, we are proud of you!

Meanwhile, back in school, Hedgehogs were finding out about space and used glitter and paper to cover the moon whilst the children in Rabbits were making their own Traction Man story scenes. They made a three part story board and then created the settings for their own story boxes.

Elm class were feeling inspired by the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  They used a delicious picture of a  sweet shop as a stimulus to write their own mouth-watering descriptions.

At the end of the afternoon the ‘Learning Ambassadors’ from all classes from Years One to Six met with Mrs Irwin, one of our school governors, to feedback to her about the learning which has been taking place across the school. Mrs Irwin asked the children questions about their learning and was very impressed with the amount of detail they told her. Well done children, we are proud of you!

After school Mr Smith hosted another table tennis club in the upstairs hall whilst Mr B held the first of his ‘Superhero Clubs’ in the downstairs hall. Down the corridor another session of ‘Clay Cottage Club’ took place where some the children created their own Pokemon characters out of clay.
