It was an exciting day in Year Six today as the classes were joined by a host of parents all eager to learn more about how to support their children with their writing. The morning began in the downstairs hall as Mrs Creak explained to the parents how we approach the teaching of writing as the children enter their final year in primary school. After the information session the parents then joined the children in class to see the teaching of writing in action for themselves. The children were beginning to write play scripts based around the story of Rose Blanche. This book is set in Germany during WWII and tells the story from an interesting perspective. Todays session allowed the parents to see how the classes approached the writing of the background and introduction to their play scripts. It was smashing to see the parents so eager to join the children, thanks so much to everyone who made it along. the powerpoint of the information session will be emailed out to all Year Six parents tomorrow.

Meanwhile, as the children in Sycamore put the finishing touches to their witches frames and the children in Hedgehogs created their own crowns independently, the children in Kestrels were outside on the playground using trundle wheels to measure the distances in metres from one point to another. They then measured a pen 4x5m, getting them to draw the perimeter with chalk on the playground, as they received news that Mr Fox needed a new pen of this exact size for his cubs!

In the afternoon, the children in year Two were inspired by their recent class story ‘The Paper Bag Princess’ and wanted to learn more about castles. They used the internet and information books to learn about the history of castles and what materials were used to make castles before then excitingly designing their own castles. The classrooms became a creative whirlwind as the children worked in groups to bring their designs to life! They covered and painted boxes, measured, folded and cut cardboard in order to create turrets and even carefully created their own flags! It was a fabulous afternoon full of designing flair!
