It was another busy day at Earls Hall today! After the morning had started with some of the children perfecting their potting skills in the downstairs hall at Snooker Club, the children in Year Woodpeckers used the playground to learn about different speeds of movement, from a slow walk to a speed walk, jog and run. Back inside, across Year One the children were practising their design skills using Lego. Designs ranged from a houseboat to a townhouse with windows. The children then linked this to their science topic of materials and talked about why they had chosen Lego and not a different material to build with.  There was lots of discussion about the best material for the windows and everyone agreed that glass would be the not suitable as it let’s in light and we can see through it. The children were excited to learn the word ‘transparent’.

Meanwhile, having enjoyed a presentation all about dolphins from Isla, the children in Oak used their PE lesson to choreograph a carnival style dance in groups whilst the children in Foxes worked outside in the Forest Friends area to create their own works of art using natural materials. Inspired by artists Andy Goldsworthy and Alice Fox, the children created spirals and other patterns out of sticks and leaves with some fantastic results.

After school, as more children ventured out with Mrs Gorbutt and Mrs Collins to take part in horse riding lessons, a meeting of the governing body was held where they discussed school improvement priorities for the year and monitored the work of the school before popping over to the Lodge in order to see how our new ‘home from home’ personalised provision is working to directly support the children who spend time there and indirectly benefits the rest of the pupils.
