It was a ‘mathstastic’ day for the children in Year One this afternoon as they took part in another fun numbertime lesson. The children were focusding on developing their number bond skills, with some children identifying number combinations to ten whilst others used their knowledge of bonds to ten to calculate those to twenty. Some children used Numicon to calculate whilst others combined multilink, used number programs on the laptops or simply calculated in their heads.
Earlier in the day the children in Elm were looking at features of recount writing. They studied an extract from ‘The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe’ which was about Edmund first meeting the White Witch. The children then created a word bank which will help them with their writing later in the week.
Outside, the children in Foundation Stage used their Forest Friends sessions to investigate birds. They created their own nests using cuttings from the trees and bushes before working in groups to make bird feeders for our feathered friends.
As the children in Badgers worked with the coaches from Southend United where they perfected their rolling skills and ways to hit a target, the children in Sycamore took part in a yoga session in the upstairs hall.
