It was a busy start to the week for the children in Hawks today as they began to investigate light. Throughout the afternoon the children carried out different experiments which taught them a little about the behaviour of light. By making holes in boxes and using a torch to try and see the objects underneath the box, they learnt that light travels in straight lines. They also each made a colour whizzer wheel to help them to understand that, although light is made up of seven colours, when they mix together at speed it looks like white light. They then blew bubbles and used torches to look at them at different angles to see if we could see the seven colours in the bubbles. It was an active lesson and a great introduction to their new science topic.

Meanwhile, as some of the children in Foundation Stage showed an interest in pirates and used the theme to inspire their imaginative play, the children in Elm began experimenting with simple electrical circuits.

After some of the children enjoyed our new ‘Reading for Pleasure’ club in the library at lunchtime, the children in Foxes used their sketch books again. The children sketched out twigs and small branches but included their details through touch alone. The children felt the twigs behind their backs and then drew what they felt with some stunning line drawings being produced. There was more fun for Foxes later as they took their turn, along with Badgers and Owls, out on the playground where they played a series of ball games with the team from Southend United. Thanks to the coaches for coming along and giving us their time.
