It was another busy day at Earls Hall today. There was a musical vibe taking place throughout the day as the community room played host to band sessions led by the ‘Rock Steady’ crew. The children worked in groups to try out various instruments, playing simple chords and beats together to create a ‘jamming’ effect. It was early days in terms of beautiful music but the sessions give the children the opportunity to try learning all of the instruments in order to see which one they might like to play more long term.

As the day progressed the children in Rabbits experimented with colour mixing. They used primary coloured paints to mix their own tones of other colours which they carefully applied to paper.

In Elm, the children worked in groups to prepare questions around social themes. The questions will be asked to key members of staff in school to address issues such as how to tackle litter in school and what to do about lost property. The children plan to carry out interviews and then use the answers gained to write reports on the issues.

In Oak the children worked in groups to identify animals which would be classified as vertebrates or invertebrates, animals with or without a backbone. They discussed their ideas and then sorted the pictures of various animals into groups.

Out on the field, the children in Sycamore took part in the second of our Year Five ‘Bikeability’ sessions whilst Mr Smith put the children from Willow through their paces as they developed their standing and long jumping skills.

Over in the pool, the children from Woodpeckers and Badgers developed their backstroke and front crawl techniques whilst being taught by Mr Knight.
