It was another proud day in Year Six today as a group of children from 6S ventured out of school in order to take part in our latest ‘AOK Club’ mission. Following the year groups recent ‘Dementia Friends’ training sessions which saw the children gain an understanding of the condition, the children attended the Southend Dementia Community Support ‘Activity Group’ at St Edmunds Community Centre. At the session the children played games and completed jigsaws with the members of the group. They chatted with them, undertook art and craft activities, served them tea and biscuits and even played table tennis with them. The children were incredibly well behaved and polite throughout the session and Mr B was very proud to present the group with their special badges in recognition of their kindness.

Meanwhile, back in school, the children in Willow took part in a sewing session which saw them independently sewing a running stitch pattern onto a previously tie-dyed cloth. In Oak the children investigated the power of advertising as part of their work studying persuasive writing. They identified persuasive sentences and words in adverts and discussed how adverts use them in order to attract customers. The children then thought of their own persuasive passages to advertise a chocolate from Willy Wonkas Chocolate Factory!
