There was a host of historical activities taking place in many corners of the school today as the children loved investigating the past! In Year Three the children took on the roles of archeologists and acted out how they discover artefacts from the past by taking part in digs. The children worked in groups to brush off artefacts in sand pits, carefully unearthing items such as old bottles and fossils and then discussing what it must be like to make discoveries for real. They then developed an understanding of chronology and worked with talk partners to try and order events based on facts which they already knew as well as clues which they identified from written passages, pictures and oral accounts.

There was more history on show in Year six as the children investigated the life of the famous artist William Turner. The children pieced together the facts that they could find about his life from written accounts before looking at a number of his paintings and discussing with a friend their feelings about each piece.

In Aspen, the children used Google Classroom in order to research about the time of the Romans from passages of writing and then fed back to Mr Brasted the facts which they had discovered.

Meanwhile, in Robins the children went outside with Mrs Bowden in order to carry out their very own bear hunt. Inspired by the favourite book, the children went on a trail around the Forest Friends woods before going back inside and drawing trails and maps of their journey and painting bears.

In Oak the children took part in a science experiment where they investigated the changing temperatures of ice cubes and water whilst in Year Two the children developed their understanding of halves and doubles.
