It was a day full of farmyard fun at Earls Hall today! The children in Year Two gathered in the hall where, slap bang in the middle of their assembly, they were disturbed to see a human sized pig race across the hall who was swiftly followed by an equally life sized wolf giving chase! Every time poor Mrs Stokes tried to compose herself the pig ran in and gathered up pieces of straw, sticks or bricks or the wolf dashed in and tried to catch her. The mysterious chain of events resulted in the children looking at clues as to what story the animals could be from and they soon decided that it must be the tale of ‘The Three Little Pigs’. Back in the classroom the children decided to help the pigs by trying to help them build strong structures, starting with newspaper and junk modelling but it was decided that the disturbed assembly would also be a great opportunity for writing as the week progresses.

Meanwhile, there was more farm work taking place as groups of children in Year Five took turns to undertake the heavy jobs in the animal enclosures. The children worked with Mr Hadley to completely change the straw in the goats stable and rake over the ground in order to clear the area of any droppings. They also tended to the chickens and ducks, ensuring that all of the animals were fed and watered.

In the KS2 assemblies the children talked about acts of kindness and were reminded of the return of our ‘AOK Club’ where children can take part in missions of kindness in the community. They reminded each other of how good it feels to carry out a selfless act and how some of the missions in the past have benefitted other individuals and groups in the community.

Whilst the children in Sycamore investigated reversible and irreversible changes in science, the day also saw each class from Years One to Six identify a ‘Learning Ambassador’ whose job it will be to share the learning which is taking place in class whenever Mr B or one of his guests visits the class. The ambassadors were presented with a special badge to identify who is carrying out the role and the job will be given to a new child every week.
