It was another full day of fantastic Forest Friends fun today as we continued to celebrate ten wonderful years of our woodland provision! Throughout the day classes of children enjoyed the great outdoors, taking part in a series of fabulous activities. In our back forest, the children in Foxes followed a trail around the woods where they were challenged to climb along ropes secured to the trees whilst, out in the front forest, the children in Hawks created their own obstacle courses using wooden blocks, tyres and ropes, which they then instructed others to follow. There was also plenty of time to play on the rope swing and a great time was had by all!

Throughout the day, the classes taking part in the sessions planted a series of trees to mark the anniversary. Four cherry blossoms were planted in key areas around the school which the children will be able to take care of and watch grow over the years.

In the evening, the second half of Year Five returned to school in order to take part in their camp fire session. As darkness had fallen, the fire light created the perfect mood for the camp fire songs whilst there was also time for Mr Hadley to entertain the children on his guitar with some of his self composed songs. In between the fun, games and chants the children enjoyed toasted marshmallows, hot chocolate and popcorn and it really was a perfect way to mark the special anniversary. In recognition of their work outside in all weathers over the past decade, Mrs Mellsih and Miss Chandler were given three cheers by the children! Here’s to the next ten years!

In the morning groups of runners from years Three to Six represented the school at the Thorpe Hall Cross Country relay event, now in its twentieth year. The children each had to run the course and then were placed according to their overall time as a team. It was a fun event where the children all tried their very best against none other schools taking part. The Year Three and Five girls both came sixth whilst the Year Three girls and Years Three and Five boys both were placed fourth. The Year Six girls came third whilst the Year Six boys came second. the Year Four boys triumphed in their race, coming first. Well done to all of the children who took part, we are proud of you!
