It was an ‘eggcllent’ day for the children in Sycamore today as they took part in a practical science lesson where they were learning all about the life cycle of a bird. They identified the parts of an egg including membranes, chalaza, yolk, and albumen before they dissected an egg. The lesson saw them learn about birds in general and how they are different from mammals, drawing a diagram of the bird/chicken life cycle.  Meanwhile the children in Beech were out on the field developing their triple jump skills in their Athletics lesson. Once they had mastered the sequence of hopping, skipping and jumping they challenged themselves to see how many triple jumps they could complete within the current world record triple jump length of 18.29m!

Whilst the children in Squirrels were retelling the story of “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt ” with puppets they had created, the children in Woodpeckers decided they wanted to learn more about insects and their habitats. They read non fiction books and embarked on a mini beasts hunts before making their own snail habitats and checking on the progress of their class caterpillars.

There was more action on the back playground as the children in Aspen took their turn with the Bikeability team. The children learnt how to mount and dismount their bikes safely and also set off and stopped before travelling and indicating with their arms.

Whilst the children in Beech developed their archery skills in  the upstairs hall, Mrs Timpson was assisted by a group of children from Hedgehogs who finished the work 6M had started yesterday by spreading the shingle in the duck enclosure.  As Mr Thompson taught individual children piano lessons in the music room, there was more animal action as a couple of children from Badgers gave George the tortoise a bath.
