There was a fabulous food theme across the school today as children took part in cooking sessions both in school and off site.

The children in Kestrels ventured away from Earls hall in order to spend the day investigating food at Waitrose. Whilst at the store the children were given a tour and even took a trip to the shops freezer room! They were told about the various origins of the foods around the store and what ingredients were used in a range of recipes. Later in the morning the children went to the back of the store and each followed instructions in order to make their very own pizzas which they cooked and then took back to school to enjoy later in the day. The children were really well behaved and Mr martin was very proud of them.

Meanwhile, back in school, groups of children from rabbits welcomed visitors from the ‘PierTalk’ group who came and joined them in order to carry out a special ‘AOK Club’ mission. The ladies worked with the children to bake dozens and dozens of cakes which were later sold in the playground in a bid to raise funds to purchase Christmas gift bags for residents of local care homes. The inter-generational mission was the first of many and the ladies were really impressed with the behaviour of the children. Mr B is looking forward to presenting the children with their special badges in the morning.

Elsewhere in school, Mr Geach was lucky enough to work with 6C for the afternoon where he taught the children football skills and led a music lesson. Meanwhile, on the playground, the first of our Year Four Bikeability sessions saw the children in Oak take to their saddles, Mr Kemp visited each Year three and Four class in turn to carry out ‘Keep on Reading’ sessions and Rabbits enjoyed a circle time session where they identified positive qualities about each other.

In the morning a group of children from Year Five and Six represented the school when taking part in the Southend inter-schools football tournament held at Alleyn Court. The children showed great levels of team spirit; drawing several of their matches. A full write up will feature in our next newsletter. After school the atmosphere in Beech class was silent but electric as the children enjoyed another Chess Club led by the ever enthusiastic Mrs Robinson.
