COUNCIL, CALCULATING & CATCHING UP!

There was a theme of chat taking place across the school today. The morning saw children in Year One meet with Mr Spence, a school governor, to talk about the learning they have been taking part in back in class. They explained all about how the hook at the beginning of last week resulted in further pirate themed activities taking place ever since. Mr Spence also met with Mr B to discuss progress against the school improvement plan and Mrs Rick who explained how the office is now organised, each of the team members various responsibilities and the financial processes she manages.

In the afternoon the community room played host to the latest ‘Family Council’ meeting. Parents representing the full primary range of classes met and discussed the values they feel the school promotes well with Mr B. It was explained that part of the work the school is undertaking this year is to gain the views of all stakeholders, including parents, as to what values they feel help shape the vision and ethos of the school. Strengths which contribute towards shaping this vision included recognising the achievements of individuals, positivity and enthusiasm, building relationships and promoting friendships. The council expressed the importance of promoting a kind and caring community where creativity is encouraged. The importance of promoting independence so that children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning journey was also discussed as was the need to continue to empower the children to manage conflicts independently.

Along the corridor, in Dormice, the children were busy using numberlines and matching Numicon plates to number tiles as part of the daily Foundation Stage ‘Numbertime’ session. They also enjoyed making bridges for the ‘Billy Goats Gruff’ to cross and created musical instruments following last weeks percussion session. Children also took part in role play activities acting out scenarios in the doctors surgery.

in Sycamore the children enjoyed researching facts about the Great Wall of China and then began using the information they had found to create Powerpoint presentations.
