It was another busy day at Earls Hall today as, after the downstairs hall had welcomed the children at archery club, the morning saw parents join the children for a morning of learning in the Hive!

Mrs Creak met with the first group of visiting parents and spent time talking about how maths works at Earls Hall and in the Hive provision. Then they joined their children for a maths lesson in class where the children were estimating and measuring lengths of classroom objects. The children worked in small groups to discuss the estimated lengths of the various objects and then used rulers to measure. At the end of the session the parents gave feedback and asked any questions that they had. It was lovely to welcome the parents in to join in the fun, thanks to everyone who made it along!

Later in the day, as the children in 6J enjoyed an introduction to Excel, the smell of paint wafted from Sycamore class as the children planned and designed traditional Caribbean clothes, linked to their Windrush topic, by creating patterns with paint for their designs.

At the end of the afternoon the School Council, after sharing the children’s ideas of different charities that we could support as a school, the members voted for whether to support people or animals and people had the majority vote. They then discussed whether to support a local or national charity and local had the majority vote. By the end of the meeting, the children had all decided that this year our chosen charity is The Southend Hospital Charity. Well done children for following a great democratic process!
