Today was another special day in school as the children prepared their best smiles and took to the halls for their annual individual photographs. Photo sessions took place in both the downstairs and upstairs hall and all of the children took part. Before school there was a lengthy queue as siblings had their snaps taken for prosperity! it all went without a hitch thanks to the organisation skills of the lovely office ladies.
In the morning the children in Year Two used their English lessons to learn about contractions. Contractions is the term used when two words are joined together to make a shorter one, such as I am becoming I’m. The children looked at sentences said by the judges from the X Factor and changed them to include a series of tricky contractions before composing sentences they might say themselves and sharing them with each other.
At playtime there was plenty of activity outside. It was a tad on the windy side but this didn’t stop the children having fun. On the KS1 playground the children were assisted with their play by volunteers from the ‘Friends R us’ group, a group of Year Six role models who lead play sessions. Today the children helped the younger pupils to throw hoops using balls and play circle games which everyone could enjoy such as ‘Duck Duck Goose’.
In the afternoon the children in Owls developed their ability to dance, firstly by mastering a series of moves by following them on the big screen before incorporating them into their own dance routines. In Elms the children continued to learn about teeth and today used knowledge gained in previous lessons by debating whether a series of concept cartoons were fact or fiction.
In Aspen the children used the laptops to create Roman tile patterns. They worked in pairs to create some stunning pieces using an online programme. After school the upstairs hall was full of activity as the children in KS2 took part in ‘Table Tennis Club’. The children all took turns to compete against each other and demonstrated some amazing skills in the process.
