It was a busy first day of the final half term of the academic year at Earls Hall! The day saw the children in Year Five visited by the team from Southend United who taught the children how to measure their resting pulse rates and focused on learning the theory behind why we do physical activity. Each class then had the opportunity to put the theory  into practice by taking part in handball games out on the field. Later in the day the year group continued to work on gaining their Bronze Ambassador scheme by designing their own activities and explaining them to their peers.

Meanwhile, also outside, the children in 6M enjoyed the first of four Bikeability sessions where they familiarised themselves with the workings of their bikes before taking to their saddles and showed the team how competent they were. By the end of the session even the children who had not ridden much before were confidently cycling around the site!

Whilst the children in Owls investigated different habitats around the school site and 6C were sewing their Tudor cushions, a group of children from Robins were chosen to take Mabel out for a walk around the field.

Today saw us hold our first assembly of sorts in over a year. The children from Year Three joined Mr B in a fully ventilated upstairs hall where, spaced out in their individual bubbles well away from each other, they were asked to consider how children in school are like bunches of bananas! The children decided that that, just like the bananas, children grow together, have hidden layers and are full of energy! It was lovely to remind the children of how important assemblies are for bringing children together in order to share key messages.

As the children in Kites used their PSHE lesson to challenge gender stereotypes and 6J investigated the key events of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ the children in Elm used their Forest Friends session to take part in a bio-blitz where they identified plants, trees and minibeasts outside in the woods.
