There was a buzz of excitement on the playground today as the children in Elm took part in a Bikeability session! Despite the ever changing weather conditions, the children donned their safety helmets and took to their saddles in order to develop their cycling skills, tutored from a safe distance by the Bikeability team members. The children learnt how to start and stop safely, follow a set route steadily and indicate which way they wished to turn using their arms. For children who started the session with less experience, their confidence was boosted with one on one guidance from their familiar teachers and teaching assistants. Even though there were times when the heavens opened, it was a great session and the children were all smiles due to the progress they made.

Meanwhile, back indoors, the children in Year Five discussed the qualities of a good leader as part of their initial training for their bronze ‘Sports Ambassador’ award as they worked towards becoming successful PE leaders for the school. There was more sporting skills on display in the upstairs hall as the children in Oak developed their archery techniques.

In Owls, the children examined different seeds under a magnifying glass and discussed with their learning partners about their differences. They then drew what they thought each seed would grow into by drawing on any previous knowledge of planting. After that they then looked at the pictures of what they will grow into and were surprised at the findings. Tomorrow in Forest Friends they will be planting those seeds. The theme of planting and growing continued outside as groups of children from Year Four took to the allotment to turn over the soil and tend to their young plants in the greenhouse.

Whilst the children in Year One continued to refine their junk modelling boats and the children in Year Three developed their handwriting skills, the children in the Foundation Stage enjoyed role playing, constructing with Lego and playing in the water tray.
