It was a sensational day for our ‘Science Ambassadors’ today as they monitored investigations and the profile of their subject across the school. The ambassadors have been champions of the subject since they were elected to their roles by their classmates back at the start of the academic year and today monitored the impact that they have had across all of the classes. They identified displays detailing investigations around the school, looked for use of key scientific vocabulary in classrooms and in work and searched for photographs of science taking place both indoors and outside. It was a busy afternoon! Well done children, we are proud of you!

Meanwhile, there was plenty of animal action taking place as a group of children from Woodpeckers helped Miss Kelly to look after the ducks and chickens. They worked together to collect their eggs, fill up the water and food bowls and clear any debris from the pond. Later in the day a group of children from Elm took on the responsibility of giving the goat shed a full clean. They removed the old straw before replacing it with a fresh lot for the goats to sleep on, topped up the hay in the feeders and filled the drinking bucket with fresh water. It was strenuous work which left the children with a sense of satisfaction!

The start of the day had seen the children in Year Two joined by lots of parents as they came in to find out how we teach the children to write in the year group. The parents started their morning in the hall where Miss Childs gave them a presentation about the progression of writing before they joined the children in class. The focus of the lesson saw the children and parents learning to write in the progressive tense. They identified the differences between sentences that had been written in the simple past tense and the past progressive tense. They also sorted verbs by looking particularly at their suffixes to help them to develop their knowledge of these tenses further. Finally, they wrote their own past progressive tense sentences linked to their class text ‘The Secret Sky Garden’. They challenged themselves to extend their past progressive sentences using adjectives and adverbs too. It was an informative and busy morning. In the afternoon, as the children in Willow enjoyed learning about places of worship before enjoying a game of dodgeball, Mrs Warren-Hardy was joined by parents in the Woodland Diner where she served them samples of her new BBQ Chicken and Sweet and Sour Quorn.
