It was a special day today at Earls Hall as the whole school came together in order to mark Remembrance Day. At just before 11am the whole school gathered on the playground with all twenty one classes standing in set spaces away from other bubbles. In order to mark the start of the two minute silence, Mrs Creak played ‘The Last Post’ on the trumpet before the whole community fell silent as a mark of respect. It was a very moving moment which saw all of the children behave beautifully.

Throughout the day the children in Foxes and Owls both enjoyed Forest Friends sessions in our two wooded areas. In Foxes, the children were inspired by the work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo; an Italian painter best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of objects such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish and books. The children created their own portraits using natural materials before ending the day by playing a series of team challenge games. In Owls, the children created their own poppies to mark Remembrance Day and also made mobiles to hang using natural materials as well as developing their tool use by chopping and cutting old trees.

Whilst the children in 6J enjoyed another afternoon of swimming, the children in Year Four investigated different states of matter.  In the playground the children in Elm looked at how solid, liquid and gas particles fill a container by acting it out in person.  Back in the classroom they talked about different gases and looked for evidence of air in a container filled with different solids.  They  poured water into the container and noticed air bubbles rising to the top.

Whilst drum and guitar lessons took place for individual children in the music room, the children in Woodpeckers investigated making bridges out of different materials whilst the children in Sycamore developed their hockey skills and the children in Aspen created self portraits.
