The start of the week had an artistic theme to it with children across the school getting creative and even Mr B joined in the fun!

Our KS2 assembly this morning saw Mr B take hold of a paint palette in order to create a portrait of a willing volunteer. His painting was far from brilliant and his slapstick style caused much amusement in the audience. At the end of the portrait session Mr B asked the children to think about why they had laughed at his painting. Was it because of the lack of likeness? Perhaps it was because they thought they could paint in a better way? He then told the children about the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh and how he had often been ridiculed during his lifetime. He explained that Vincent had often had difficulty selling his paintings throughout his lifetime but that now, long after his death, he was regarded as one of the most talented artists in history. The hall then watched a clip of Doctor Who in an episode where the Doctor transports Vincent forward in time to the present day in order to see how much his artistic efforts are appreciated. The children were then asked to think about the possibility that they may be one of the greatest artists of the future and how it is important that they believe in their own talent. They were also asked to consider how important it is not to laugh at others efforts.

Later in the day the children in Year Two became artists themselves as they began creating 3D models of ancient London. They used cardboard boxes of all sizes and began to use PVA glue and paper to create them whilst the children in Sycamore continued to create their own models of rockets.

Lunchtime saw Mrs Hardy serve up helpings of her delicious mild chilli con carne before, in the afternoon, the community room saw Mr B joined by parents for the first ‘Family Council’ meeting of the year. At the meeting the council discussed the achievements of the previous year before discussing parking problems around the school and how to launch a walking bus.
