It was an exciting day for our youngest pupils as they took part in their very first ‘Forest Friends’ sessions! The children came into school fittingly dressed in their outdoor clothing and wellies and all of them were looking forward to exploring the outdoor area at the front of the school.
At the beginning of each session Miss Chandler talked to the children about ways to stay safe when working in the woods. She led the children around each area of the forest and explained to them how important it is to look out for trip hazards, such as roots, and other dangers such as low hanging branches.
The children spent time exploring the area in groups, responding to instructions by Miss Chandler to check that they were able to stop and listen when asked, and their curiosity was immeasurable.
As part of the session the children investigated the fallen leaves on the ground and talked about the changing seasons of the year. A great time was had by all and everyone ended the session looking forward to getting outside again next week!
